Mayor Adrian Fenty and DDOT
Launch Potholepalooza

Rising temperatures,
especially after a winter
storm, can bring on the
advent of what is commonly
called "pothole season."
As the colder weather moves
out and spring looms on the
horizon, roadways start to
show signs of wear and tear
from the long winter months
in the form of potholes.
In anticipation of increased
call volumes and to expedite
repairs throughout the
District, Mayor Adrian Fenty
announced today the
District's first-ever "Potholepalooza."
Potholepalooza is a month
long campaign to encourage
residents and commuters to
phone in, go on-line,
twitter or e-mail requests
for pothole repairs.
Starting March 11th and
running through April 11th,
the District Department of
Transportation (DDOT), the
agency responsible for the
repair of potholes for the
District, will work to
repair identified potholes
within 48 hours (normal
response time is within 72
hours).
DDOT repairs an average of
220,000 potholes per year in
the District with an average
annual cost of $900K.
How to Report a Pothole
Residents and Commuters can
notify DDOT in a variety of
ways:
1) call the Mayor's Call
Center at 311,
2) use the On-line Service
Request Center at
www.dc.gov,
3) text message or Tweet to
twitter.com/DDOTDC, or 4)
e-mail to
Potholepalooza@dc.gov.
Callers must identify the
location including the
correct quadrant (northwest,
northeast, southeast,
southwest) in the city and
as much detail as possible
about the hazard, including
the approximate size and
depth of the pothole.
DDOT crews will also be out
and about proactively
identifying potholes.
DDOT will be posting numbers
and overall totals of
potholes filled.
This information will be
updated daily and can be
found at
ddot.dc.gov/potholes.

DDOT Launches Visitor
Parking Pass Pilot in
Mt. Pleasant
The District Department
of Transportation (DDOT)
launched a 1-year
Visitor Parking Pass
(VPP) Pilot Program in
Mount Pleasant. The
passes were mailed this
week to each eligible
household in the
neighborhood. The pilot
is intended to address
the inconvenience to
residents caused by
having to obtain a new
visitor parking permit
each time a visitor is
expected. VPPs
are valid through March
31, 2010 and displays a
unique ID number for
each resident. The VPP
allows visitor parking
for periods longer than
two hours on blocks
where RPP signs read
Zone 1D or *1DD and it
is not tied to any
particular vehicle or
visitor.
Visitors should display
the Visitor Parking Pass
on the driver's side of
the dashboard. At the
end of the visit,
visitors should return
the VPP to the resident.
Eligible residents, who
do not receive their VPP
in the mail, may request
one by calling DDOT at
(202) 671-2333.
