5- Alarm Fire at Deauville Apartments
Thursday, March 13:
Last night around midnight, a fire broke out on the roof of the
Deauville apartments at 3145 Mount Pleasant Street. Everyone was
evacuated safely. No cause as yet to this horrible tragedy.
The fire affected six buildings including the Meridian Hill
Baptist Church. About 200 people have been displaced.
MPNA has gathered information and here is where our community work
begins.
Neighbors' Consejo is taking food and clothing donations at 3118
16th St, NW. Please consider making a donation.
They will be open until midnight tonight. You can reach Evar
Sandoval at (202) 234-6855 for more details.
Everyone is being housed at 1480 Girard Street NW. Please make
donations and offers of assistance there. There is a Mr. Payne who
is coordinating services for the displaced. Many of the District's
service agencies are on site there today and their most pressing
concern is to find housing for these folks.
Adult clothing, men and women, shoes, socks, baby clothes,
and baby supplies are also needed (strollers, cribs, formula, etc.)
Children will probably also need toys to comfort them.
Special thanks to the Metropolitan Police Department, Fire Emergency
Medical Services Unit for their bravery in fighting their first
5-alaram fire in over 30 years.
We are grateful for everything you have done—you help,
energy, and commitment.
