MPNA Voluntary Agreements Remain in Effect and Not Terminated
(Washington,
DC)
Today, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC)
denied the request to terminate voluntary agreements with two Mount
Pleasant Restaurants,
Haydee’s
and
Don Jaime’s.
After many hours of hearings and testimonies, the ABC Board
determined that the Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Alliance (MPNA)
voluntary agreements will remain in effect and not be terminated.
Instead, the agreements will be amended to allow these two
restaurants to have live entertainment and dancing until 11:00 pm on
Sunday through Wednesday; until midnight on Thursday; and until 1:00
am on Friday and Saturday.
The charging of cover charge will also be permitted.
The ABC board further restricted dancing and cover charge to the
hours that is permitted for live entertainment.
“MPNA supports live entertainment and the [ABC] Board made a
decision that balanced the needs of all parties involved.
It is MPNA’s hope that these provisions will reduce the
chances of these restaurants morphing into nightclubs,
said
Laurie Collins,
President of MPNA.
Additionally, the Board decided to maintain the
last call provision in the MPNA agreements rather than the
language in other agreements presented to the Board.
This is the first contested hearing in our city that the Board has
held to consider whether an existing
voluntary agreement
should be terminated.
