This is the first public meeting for the
DC Office of Planning's
Small Area Plan Project
for Mt. Pleasant Street
All civic groups from Mt Pleasant are
participating in this effort and this is a great
chance to help determine how Mt Pleasant Street
can be improved.
The meeting goals are to:
· Discuss the Office of
Planning's Small Area Planning process and
its potential impact on Mt Pleasant Street.
· Identify community goals and priorities
· Establish next steps
Specific questions to be addressed in the
study include:
1. What commercial corridor
development strategy could be employed to
make the main street thrive?
2. How does this strategy meet the needs of
local residents and does it create an
environment where all residents can come
together - a shared space?
3. How can the District and neighborhood
stakeholder groups, successfully partner to
encourage economic development and/or
implement a recommended commercial strategy?
The City's Office of Planning
has started a Small Area Plan for Mt
Pleasant Street which will take a
comprehensive approach to addressing land
use, urban design and community development
issues.
The recommendations of a
S.A.P. are approved by council as
legislation.
This is a unique chance to for Mt Pleasant
Street to get the attention and the budget
from the city to develop a comprehensive
growth plan.
This is
our chance to be heard early in the process
and help shape it, rather than react to what
they end up coming up with.
